US DOJ approves Paramount Skydance's $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery
The United States Department of Justice announced on Friday that it has cleared Paramount Skydance’s purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery, a deal valued at roughly $110‑111 billion. The merger will combine the Paramount and Warner Bros. studios, the streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max, and the news divisions CBS News and CNN, forming one of the largest media conglomerates in recent decades. The antitrust review, which lasted eight months, concluded the transaction will not lessen competition in television, streaming or content production and may even boost competition by strengthening the combined company against dominant digital‑media players. The approval was welcomed by Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison. The deal still requires clearance from regulators in other jurisdictions, including the European Union and the United Kingdom.
