US DOJ clears Paramount‑Warner Bros. Discovery merger

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that it will not challenge Paramount Global’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, concluding an eight‑month antitrust review. The agency said the transaction is not likely to harm competition or American consumers and approved it without requiring divestitures or other remedies.

Opposition groups, including the Block the Merger coalition, vowed to continue fighting the deal, arguing it would reduce competition, cut jobs, and threaten media pluralism. Senate Democrat Elizabeth Warren and other state attorneys general have been urged to block the merger, while California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the deal remains under investigation by his office. The DOJ’s review involved more than 2 million documents from over 80 parties.
