US DOJ Drops Bribery Case Against Indian Billionaire Gautam Adani

The U.S. Department of Justice announced it is dropping the indictment against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani related to alleged $265 million bribes paid to Indian officials to secure a large solar‑power project. The decision was outlined in a letter from U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella, who said he was not the decision‑maker and that senior DOJ official Trent McCotter argued the matter was “foreign” and should not be pursued by U.S. authorities.

The case had earlier been revived when a federal judge ordered sworn testimony on possible quid‑pro quo arrangements. Adani’s conglomerate has denied wrongdoing; the billionaire offered a $10 billion investment to the United States as part of a potential settlement and is also contesting a related SEC civil case.
