U.S. Embassy Abuja maintains diplomatic visa processing

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja has clarified that it will continue to process diplomatic and official visas, specifically categories A, G, and C, despite recent changes to routine visa services in Nigeria.

Effective August 1, 2026, routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa services were transferred from the Abuja Embassy to the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. Applicants with valid, unused visa application fee receipts may use them to schedule appointments in Lagos.

For diplomatic and official visa applicants, the embassy requires a diplomatic note or note verbale from a Foreign Ministry or international organization, a DS-160 confirmation page, a diplomatic or official passport, and a recent photo with a white background. The embassy advises applicants to consult their protocol offices and to submit applications at least 10 business days before planned travel.
