US energy storage industry targets 225GW deployment by 2032

The US energy storage industry is targeting the deployment of 225GW/1TWh of capacity by the end of 2032, according to a report by the Energy Storage Coalition. Achieving the 1TWh energy capacity goal over the next five years would require a 25% compound annual growth rate, representing a 500% increase in energy capacity.

Key drivers for this market acceleration include increasing grid flexibility requirements due to more dynamic electricity supply and demand, urgent capacity needs stemming from manufacturing, electrification, and artificial intelligence, and significant cost reductions. The projected 225GW of capacity would be equivalent to the combined peak power supply of Texas, California, Florida, and Michigan.
