U.S. Envoy praises Syria as a model for cooperation and prosperity

Thomas Barack, the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria and Iraq, has described Syria as a “model of what can happen” in less than two years, praising the growing cooperation between Damascus and Washington.

In an interview with Syrian state television, Barack noted that the current level of cooperation serves as a starting point for building a new fabric of Syrian-American relations following five decades of instability. He expressed that the United States aims to assist Syria in accelerating its access to technology and prosperity.

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and major American corporations. These discussions focused on investment opportunities and expanding economic partnerships to support Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery efforts. This diplomatic expansion follows the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024.
