U.S. ETF market on track for record 1,470 launches in 2026
The U.S. exchange-traded fund (ETF) market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with approximately 900 new products launched so far in 2026. If current trends continue, the year could see a record 1,470 launches, surpassing the 2025 record of 1,050.
A significant portion of this expansion involves complex financial instruments. Roughly one-third of new launches are leveraged products, and more than half of all ETFs introduced this year utilize derivatives. This represents a sharp increase from previous years; for instance, leveraged ETF launches rose from fewer than 50 in 2024 to approximately 200 in 2025.
Despite the high volume of new products, cryptocurrency-related ETFs have faced challenges. In 2026, Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $8.76 billion in outflows against $3.93 billion in inflows, while Ethereum ETFs saw $2.25 billion in outflows compared to only $9.64 million in inflows. However, recent data shows a shift toward positive territory, with combined inflows of $1.1 billion for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in a single week, largely driven by BlackRock’s IBIT.
