US EV Sales Drop Sharply for Ford and Chevrolet in First Half of 2026
Ford Motor Company reported a 57.4% plunge in U.S. electric‑vehicle (EV) sales for the first half of 2026, delivering only 16,606 EVs. The decline was driven by the planned phase‑out of the Escape and Lincoln Corsair, a 69% fall in daily rental volumes, and the shrinking of its EV lineup to mainly the Mustang Mach‑E. The Mach‑E accounted for most of the 9,746 battery‑electric vehicles sold in Q2, while the F‑150 Lightning and E‑Transit van saw double‑digit percentage drops.
General Motors disclosed that Chevrolet’s Equinox EV sales fell 41% year‑over‑year to 16,249 units in the same period, as competition from new models such as Toyota bZ and Hyundai IONIQ 5 intensified. GM’s broader EV portfolio helped offset the decline, with the newly launched 2027 Chevrolet Bolt contributing 4,224 units and Cadillac’s electric SUVs posting record‑high sales. Overall, GM’s U.S. EV market share rose to roughly 13‑14%, even as total U.S. automotive sales dropped 4.2% in Q2.
