The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported 67 cases of Cyclospora infection in travelers returning from Mexico between 30 April and 15 July 2026, including 30 from England, 27 from Scotland and 10 from Wales. Mexican health authorities – Cofepris, Senasica and the Directorate General of Epidemiology – will inspect the establishments linked to the cases, although joint testing by Mexican and U.S. officials has so far found no evidence of the parasite in samples.

Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb said investigations point to cilantro and parsley grown in central Mexico as a possible source, a claim the Mexican government disputes. In the United States, the CDC has recorded more than 11,500 suspected Cyclospora cases, with 6,707 confirmed infections across 45 states, some of which have been linked to iceberg lettuce supplied by a Mexican processor and to meals at Taco Bell. The Mexican agricultural sector has defended the safety of its exports, noting that laboratory analyses of water and produce from the implicated processing plant were negative.

A first domestic case was identified in Monclova, Coahuila, confirming that the parasite is present in Mexico but emphasizing that transmission occurs through contaminated water or raw produce, not person‑to‑person. Investigations continue in both countries.
