US Grain Futures Drop on Favorable Midwest Weather

Chicago grain and oilseed futures fell on Tuesday as improved weather forecasts for the U.S. Midwest boosted expectations of higher crop yields. The most‑active corn contract on the Chicago Board of Trade slipped 0.6% to about $4.41 per bushel, soybeans fell 0.3% to $11.77, and wheat dropped roughly 0.7% to $6.04. USDA data showed 67% of the corn crop and 66% of the soybean crop in good‑to‑excellent condition, with planting well ahead of five‑year averages.

Analysts said the weather‑driven yield outlook, combined with ample global supplies, reduced demand for U.S. shipments despite ongoing geopolitical risks such as the conflict in Ukraine. The decline in futures prices may ease pressure on global grain prices, offering potential relief for import‑dependent regions while tightening margins for exporters.

Traders will watch upcoming USDA supply‑and‑demand reports and further weather updates for signs of whether the price dip will stabilize or reverse.
