US Halloween spending projected to reach record $13.5 billion

Americans are projected to spend a record $13.5 billion on Halloween this year, according to a forecast from the National Retail Federation. Of this total, $4.3 billion is expected to be spent on decorations. Consumer behavior shows an early start to the season, with 49% of shoppers beginning their preparations in September or earlier.

Participation in Halloween celebrations has also shifted significantly toward adults. While the holiday was once primarily for children, over 70% of adults now celebrate, with the 18-to-34 age demographic being the most active participants. This group also represents the largest spenders, particularly regarding costumes. Modern celebrations have evolved from traditional trick-or-treating toward social activities such as parties and bar hopping, making alcohol a significant component of the holiday economy.
