US House approves $1.15 trillion defense bill amid Iran war and Israel cooperation

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 216‑212 to pass the fiscal‑2027 National Defense Authorization Act, authorizing more than $1.15 trillion in defense spending. The bill includes a 5‑7 % pay raise for service members, additional funding for nuclear deterrence, missile defense, and other capabilities, and a provision (Section 219) that expands U.S.–Israel military‑technology cooperation.

Democratic lawmakers opposed the measure, citing its massive cost, the ongoing, unpopular war in Iran (which the Pentagon estimates has already cost about $37.5 billion), and concerns over the Save America Act – a voting‑restriction package attached to the NDAA. Republicans argue the spending is needed to maintain readiness, support troops, and counter threats from Iran, China and other adversaries. The legislation now moves to the Senate, where Democrats have already blocked a similar version and where the Save America Act is unlikely to pass.

The vote breaks a decades‑long tradition of bipartisan passage of the NDAA and underscores deep partisan divisions over defense funding, foreign‑policy strategy, and domestic voting‑policy reforms.
