US House Oversight Committee to probe birth-tourism businesses

A US House Oversight Committee task force, chaired by Republican Congressman Brandon Gill of Texas, will hold a hearing on September 1 titled ‘Protecting American Citizenship: Confronting Birth Tourism.’ The investigation aims to examine the prevalence of businesses that market maternity packages to foreign women, allowing them to give birth in the United States so their children can acquire American citizenship.

The committee is investigating whether these companies are exploiting birthright citizenship and the US immigration system. Congressman Gill expressed concerns regarding national security and sovereignty, specifically highlighting travelers from countries considered adversaries, such as China and Russia.

As part of the probe, the panel issued a subpoena to Dr. Wladimir Lorentz, the founder and chief medical officer of Miami Medical Concierge Services, which operates under the name ‘Have My Baby’ in Miami. The task force intends to seek answers from companies profiting from these arrangements and will consider potential congressional action.
