US humanitarian aid arrives in Matanzas, Cuba

The first shipment of humanitarian aid from the United States arrived at Varadero International Airport for the Diocese of Matanzas, Cuba. The supplies, which include essential food items and personal hygiene products, will initially be distributed to 700 vulnerable families in communities such as Unión de Reyes, Bolondrón, Güira, and others.

Cáritas Cuba is managing the distribution, with a long-term goal of benefiting 18,200 households within the diocese. Priority is being given to high-risk groups, including seniors over 60, people with disabilities, the chronically ill, pregnant women, and children under five.

This assistance is part of a $60 million allocation channeled through the Catholic Church from a $100 million humanitarian fund approved by the United States. Previous shipments have been delivered to Havana, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Camagüey, and Ciego de Ávila as Cuba continues to face significant economic and energy crises.
