U.S. humanitarian aid arrives in Santa Clara, Cuba

Humanitarian aid from the United States has begun arriving in the Diocese of Santa Clara, Cuba. An initial shipment containing 700 modules of food and hygiene products was received at the Abel Santamaría airport.

This delivery is part of a larger $100 million aid package pledged by Washington. The Catholic Church, through Caritas, is tasked with managing $60 million of this total, while the remaining $40 million will be distributed by other organizations. The project is supported by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which has collaborated with Caritas Cuba for over 30 years to prepare and dispatch these modules.

Bishop Arturo González Amador stated that the aid is intended for the most vulnerable families in areas such as Quemado de Güines and Rancho Veloz. He emphasized that the assistance is designed to address the most urgent and painful situations rather than serving as a permanent social assistance project. The distribution will be managed by the Diocese of Santa Clara and Caritas to ensure the aid reaches those in greatest need.
