US Importers Begin Receiving Refunds After Supreme Court Strikes Trump Tariffs

The U.S. Supreme Court invalidated a set of import tariffs imposed under the Trump administration, prompting a federal order to refund up to $166 billion to affected importers.

Heavy‑truck maker Oshkosh Corp and toy maker Basic Fun reported receiving partial payments, marking the first disbursements under the refund program. Basic Fun's CEO Jay Foreman said the company received $400,000 of its $7.4 million claim, while Oshkosh confirmed it has also started to receive a portion of its refund.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that by early April, 56,497 importers had completed the necessary steps to obtain electronic refunds, amounting to $127 billion—more than three‑quarters of the total eligible refunds. Over 330,000 importers had paid tariffs on 53 million shipments, underscoring the breadth of the program.
