US-Iran conflict reaches military stalemate amid rising fuel prices

Six months after the commencement of US-Israeli military operations against Iran, the conflict has reached a military stalemate. Despite initial predictions of a swift resolution, Iran has not surrendered, and maritime navigation continues to face significant disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the lack of military progress, the United States is shifting its strategy toward a campaign of economic pressure to weaken the Iranian government. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that new military strikes are unlikely at this time.

The conflict is exerting significant political and economic pressure on the United States. President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have reportedly declined from 40% to 33% following the escalation, partly due to rising fuel prices that contradict his campaign promises to lower costs. Public support for the conflict in the US has fallen to 31%.

German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has criticized the military operations as ‘irresponsible,’ holding the US administration accountable for rising fuel prices. Klingbeil has also advocated for an EU-level windfall tax on oil companies to prevent them from exploiting geopolitical instability to increase profits.
