US-Iran Interim Deal Triggers G7 Negotiations

The United States and Iran reached an interim agreement that halts active hostilities and opens a 60‑day window to negotiate Tehran's nuclear programme and related sanctions. The draft, to be formally signed in Switzerland, calls for the disposition of Iran's highly enriched uranium and the lifting of many sanctions, though details on down‑blending and monitoring remain unsettled.

The pact was highlighted during a week of G7 gatherings in Geneva and Versailles, where leaders from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada and invited nations discussed the agreement, reaffirmed support for Ukraine and contemplated broader security and economic coordination.

Critics in both Washington and Tehran expressed skepticism about implementation, while officials stressed the deal as a step toward a longer‑term resolution of the nuclear issue.
