US Justice Department Indicts Mexican Cartel Leaders and Sentences Georgia Inmates in Major Drug Trafficking Cases

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., indicted two high‑ranking members of the United Cartels—Juan Jose “Juanjo” Farias Mendoza, 31, and Israel “Papo” Vega Farias, 37—on charges of trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine into the United States and supporting a foreign‑terrorist organization. The indictment follows a multi‑agency investigation that began in the Eastern District of Tennessee, where authorities seized meth and fentanyl, and highlighted the cartel’s extensive distribution network across U.S. cities and internationally.

In Georgia, a federal court sentenced two inmates, Devito Duran Young (45) and Trace Davrin Works (29), to 327 months and 262 months in prison respectively for conspiring to import fentanyl and synthetic cannabinoids from China into Southwest Georgia. The case stemmed from an FBI‑led Homeland Security Task Force investigation that also involved the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
