Mexico organized‑crime crackdown & US indictments

Entities: Michael C. Reese · Kash Patel · Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación · Todd Bru · Travis C. “Tri” Cole

Overview

The binational campaign against Mexican organized crime kept expanding through mid‑2026. On 18 June authorities captured 31‑year‑old Alberto, a priority target linked to multiple homicides and femicide in Mexico City’s Azcapotzalco district, seizing narcotics during a joint operation in Hidalgo. The next day an AEI agent heading the vehicle‑theft unit was shot dead outside his home in Tecate, Baja California, highlighting the violence faced by law‑enforcement personnel.

In early July, Puebla’s “Puebla Segura” sweep detained 18‑year‑old Orlando Alexis N., confiscating crystal, heroin‑like material, marijuana and ammunition, while U.S. officials announced the detention of major trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. The same week a Washington grand jury indicted United Cartel seniors Juan Jose “Juanjo” Farias Mendoza and Israel “Papo” Vega Farias on meth‑trafficking and foreign‑terrorist support charges, and the DOJ targeted Los Rugrats leader Carlos Páez Pereda for narcoterrorism. Georgia courts delivered convictions against Josue Serda and Gregory Robinson for operating a fentanyl‑meth network, and sentenced two Sureño gang members to 40‑year terms.

July 21 saw further U.S. sentencing: Robert James Salyards received 180 months for meth possession in North Carolina, while three Arizona defendants were given seven‑year terms for moving over 70 lb of cartel‑linked meth. Finally, on 4 August the U.S. Department of Justice and State Department announced a coordinated multi‑agency operation aimed at dismantling the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel, underscoring the sustained, cross‑border effort to disrupt Mexican drug networks, seize narcotics, and curb associated violence.
