United States escalates nightly strikes on Iran

The United States has carried out a ninth and tenth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran, targeting military command centres, air‑defence and coastal‑surveillance sites, missile‑launch and drone facilities, and communications networks. CENTCOM says the operations are intended to further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran responded with ballistic‑missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and reported explosions in several Iranian cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar and Bandar Mahshahr. Iranian state media said two oil tankers exploded while attempting to transit the southern route of the strait.

U.S. casualties have risen to three service members killed in the last two days – two in Jordan and one in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone – and one service member remains missing. The total number of U.S. deaths since the conflict began on 28 February is now 17.

President Donald Trump has warned of “hard” retaliation and framed the latest raids as “in honour of the fallen soldiers.” The escalating exchange has pushed Brent crude above $90 a barrel, reflecting heightened concerns over regional oil‑transport security.
