US Rep. Ro Khanna detained by Israeli settlers in West Bank

U.S. Representative Ro Khanna and his delegation were stopped near the abandoned village of Khirbet Zanuta in the southern West Bank by armed Israeli settlers who brandished American‑made M4 rifles. The settlers blocked the road for more than an hour, kicking tires and filming the convoy. Khanna said Israeli forces arrived, sided with the settlers and continued the detention until the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem intervened and secured the group's release.

Khanna called the episode “unprecedented,” accused the Israel Defense Forces of lying, and urged an investigation and arrests of the settlers involved. The Israeli military disputed his account, saying its troops dispersed civilians who were unlawfully blocking the road. The incident sparked criticism from pro‑Israel politicians and prompted public statements from both U.S. and Israeli officials.
