The United States military has established a secret maritime shipping corridor in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the continuous flow of oil despite ongoing tensions with Iran. According to US officials, the military has maintained control over the strait's southern channel for approximately two months.
Under this operation, which has been active for several weeks, between 15 and 20 tankers navigate the southern channel along the Omani coast every night. The corridor facilitates a two-way process: empty tankers are escorted from the Arabian Sea into the Gulf to load oil, while loaded vessels are moved out toward international markets. This system currently transports approximately 10 million barrels of oil daily, which represents nearly half of the volume seen before the current conflict.
The operation is coordinated by a US task force based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The ability to maintain this route was bolstered by a recent US Central Command campaign that degraded Iran's maritime surveillance and radar capabilities. To protect against potential Iranian retaliation, the US Air Force provides air defense against drones and cruise missiles.
