US Military launches new attacks against Iran FAST-MOVING
The US military announced that it began a new series of attacks against Iran on Wednesday at 20:00 US Eastern Time. The attacks were framed as a decisive response to alleged Iranian attempts to strike US forces in the Middle East. Hours earlier, President Donald Trump had warned of retaliation.
Centcom reported that an Iranian ballistic‑missile launch targeting US troops in the region on the previous evening was intercepted, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed the launch was aimed at a US base in Jordan. Jordanian forces said they intercepted five rockets from Iran. The United States also said its forces, alongside Saudi Arabia, struck "terrorists" in Iraq linked to Iran, citing more than 30 drone attacks in the prior 72 hours allegedly ordered by Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
The US and Israel previously began airstrikes on Iran on 28 February, and in mid‑June the United States and Iran signed a framework intended to end hostilities through negotiations, though a ceasefire declared in April was later said to have been ended by President Trump. Tehran also indicated it no longer feels bound by the provisional agreement.
