United States military costs for Operation Epic Fury against Iran reach billions
The United States is facing significant logistical and financial challenges following Operation Epic Fury against Iran. Reports from the Pentagon Inspector General indicate that the operation cost approximately 33.4 billion dollars between February 28 and June 30, with over 3 billion dollars lost in aircraft and 22.3 billion dollars spent on munitions.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has provided further estimates, suggesting total costs for operations, logistics, and maintenance could reach 38 billion dollars. This massive expenditure has raised concerns regarding the depletion of American military stockpiles. The CBO warns that the Pentagon and the defense industry may require up to five years to fully replenish ammunition stocks, especially after reports that long-range precision missiles were used extensively.
Beyond financial costs, the conflict has had strategic implications. The diversion of military assets to the Middle East, including at least six naval vessels, has reportedly weakened the United States' naval position in the Indo-Pacific region. As the conflict continues, Washington faces the dual challenge of funding ongoing operations while simultaneously rebuilding its arsenals to maintain readiness for future international crises.
