Middle East conflict escalates as U.S. strikes Iranian tankers

Military tensions in the Middle East have escalated significantly following a series of maritime and aerial strikes. U.S. forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) near Kharg Island and Jask in response to previous Iranian missile attacks on U.S. warships.

In retaliation, the IRGC launched ballistic missiles targeting U.S. assets, including a reported strike on a base in Jordan. The Jordanian military successfully intercepted 18 of the 20 incoming missiles, reporting no casualties. The IRGC has also threatened to target oil tankers in the ports of Kuwait and Bahrain.

Simultaneously, the conflict in Yemen has intensified. Houthi rebels launched missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabian economic sites and energy facilities in cities including Abha, Jazan, Najran, and Khamis Mushait. These attacks reportedly injured 73 civilians and caused fires at several oil facilities.

In response to the maritime instability, the U.S. administration has also implemented new sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector, specifically affecting 27 airlines and several service providers linked to Mahan Air. The regional security situation remains volatile as both sides threaten further direct military action.
