Iran announced that talks with Oman on the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz have made progress. The negotiations were held in Tehran on Friday and Saturday, July 26, 2026, between the deputy foreign ministers of both countries. The parties focused on common principles and operational mechanisms to ensure safe shipping while respecting each nation’s sovereign rights, and said technical and political consultations will continue. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei reported that there has been no change in the level of commercial shipping traffic through the strait and added that Iran has not recorded any U.S. attacks after nearly two weeks of strikes.

The discussions follow renewed U.S. attacks on Iran after a June memorandum of understanding aimed at de‑escalation, and come amid earlier talks about possible service fees for ships transiting the waterway, a proposal opposed by the United States.
