US Navy facilitates increased oil flow through Strait of Hormuz

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the US military has assisted in moving more than 15 million barrels of oil and petroleum products through the Strait of Hormuz. When including regional pipeline transport, the total volume leaving the Gulf region reached approximately 20 million barrels.

Wright noted that the seven-day average of oil moving through the strait has risen above eight million barrels per day. This represents a significant increase from the second quarter, when average flows dropped to 4.9 million barrels per day due to the Iran conflict and commercial shipping restrictions. However, current traffic remains below the 21.6 million barrels per day recorded in the final quarter of 2025.

Data from United Against Nuclear Iran indicates that the Joint Maritime Information Center recorded 71 ‘U.S. facilitated’ transits during the 48-hour period of August 18 and 19. Since June 20, there have been 1,081 facilitated transits recorded, with the daily rate increasing significantly over the month ending August 19.
