US Navy oil shipments through Strait of Hormuz are increasing

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that the seven-day moving average of oil shipments escorted by the US Navy through the Strait of Hormuz is increasing and is expected to continue rising. Speaking at an International Atomic Energy Agency meeting in Vienna, Wright noted that a previously reported peak of 17 million barrels in a single day on September 1 was actually closer to 18 million barrels once an unreported vessel was accounted for.

This increased activity follows reports of a US-established maritime corridor in the strait designed to facilitate the transport of millions of barrels of oil daily. The heightened naval presence comes amid regional instability and previous attempts by Iran to block the strait, a critical global energy artery. The movement of these shipments occurs against a backdrop of rising oil prices driven by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
