US Parents Guided on Helping Students Use AI Responsibly

Early 2026 research by Verizon and Morning Consult found that American parents hold mixed views on AI tools used in education. While 71% say AI expands learning opportunities and 63% believe it makes learning more engaging and personalized, 65% express concern about students becoming overly reliant and question future readiness.

The study recommends five ways for parents to help children use AI responsibly: treat AI as a learning aid, not a substitute for thinking; encourage children to verify AI answers and recognize possible hallucinations; teach them to ask critical questions such as “How do we know this is true?”; show that different prompts can produce varied responses; and promote independent problem‑solving alongside AI assistance.
