US says intelligence behind Israeli strike on Syria air base was wrong
US Ambassador to Ankara and special envoy for Syria and Iraq, Tom Barrack, stated that the intelligence leading to an Israeli airstrike on the Abu al-Duhur military air base in northern Syria was incorrect.
Israel conducted the strike on the abandoned base in Idlib province, claiming that Turkish soldiers were attempting to deploy military installations and move southward. However, Barrack noted that after consulting US intelligence agencies, the claim that Turkey was moving military assets to the base was found to be untrue. He suggested there may have been a “miscommunication” between the Israeli military, Mossad, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Neither the United States nor Türkiye were notified of the attack in advance. Syrian officials reported that Israeli warplanes conducted eight strikes, targeting the runway and a hangar structure. No immediate information regarding casualties has been released.
