US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Strait of Hormuz will stay open after Iran strikes
Following recent U.S. air strikes on Iranian targets, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open, saying it will be kept open "one way or another." He emphasized that negotiations with Iran, currently being discussed in Qatar, may take several days to finalize a peace agreement. Rubio, speaking while on a visit to India, described the strikes on Iranian missile sites and Revolutionary Guard vessels as defensive actions rather than offensive ones. He also reiterated that the United States is prepared to assist in ending the war in Ukraine and will continue diplomatic efforts where possible.
Rubio’s comments came amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, underscoring Washington’s aim to maintain crucial maritime routes while pursuing broader diplomatic engagements.
