US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says US will not fund Iran reconstruction fund

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that discussions about who will invest in an Iranian reconstruction fund are premature and that the United States will not contribute any money. He said any regional participation will depend on Tehran's actions and that the US will not use its funds for the project.

Rubio also emphasized that talks between Israel and Lebanon should be kept separate from US‑Iran negotiations. During a Gulf tour that included the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain, he said the United States will engage directly with the Lebanese government and address Iran’s support for Hezbollah within the broader dialogue. He noted the recent Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which took effect on June 17, and the June 18 memorandum ending the maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio said the US is not asking allies to finance a proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund and will continue to listen to their security and economic concerns.
