US Senate Deliberates $1.5 Trillion FY27 Pentagon Budget

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told the Senate Appropriations Committee that not approving the Department of Defense’s $1.5 trillion budget request for fiscal year 2027 would be the "greatest threat" to U.S. security. The House has already authorized $1.15 trillion, but Senate approval remains uncertain as Republican senators weigh the price tag. Hegseth emphasized that the $87.6 billion supplemental request is part of the FY27 budget, with about $11.1 billion earmarked for U.S. farmers affected by the war in Iran.
