U.S. Senate investigates Roblox over child safety concerns

The U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism has launched a formal investigation into Roblox regarding its child protection policies. Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin sent a letter to Roblox CEO David Baszucki, alleging that the platform may prioritize revenue and engagement metrics over the safety and well-being of its young users.

The investigation follows alarming reports of criminal activity on the platform, including sexual abuse, kidnapping, and other serious offenses. Data indicates that 65,391 reports of suspected child exploitation were sent to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2025, a figure that has more than doubled compared to the previous year.

Roblox has been requested to provide detailed documentation on its safety measures and protocols for handling cases of exploitation. The company's Chief Safety Officer, Matt Kaufman, stated that Roblox is built on the principle of safety and expressed confidence in the company's ability to demonstrate its extensive protective measures. The company has until August 31 to respond to the Senate's demands.
