Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iranian Strike on Jordan Base

Iranian drones and ballistic missiles hit the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan, killing 19‑year‑old Private Isabella Gonzales of Texas and 25‑year‑old 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan of Hawaii. A third U.S. service member remains missing and four others were injured but have returned to duty.

The Pentagon identified the victims on July 18 and said the attack was part of Iran’s retaliation against U.S. operations in the region. President Donald Trump vowed that Iran would “pay many times over” for the deaths, echoing his earlier hard‑line rhetoric. The incident marks the first direct U.S. combat loss from Iranian fire since the conflict began in February and adds pressure on the White House as the war expands across the Middle East, prompting further U.S. strikes on Iranian targets in Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait and elsewhere.

The deaths bring the total U.S. military fatalities in the war to at least 17 since February 28, with hundreds more wounded, and have sparked criticism of the war’s human cost and calls for a reassessment of U.S. strategy in the region.
