U.S. State Department Report Accuses American Activists of Communist Ties

The U.S. State Department released a 100‑page document titled “Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism,” alleging that dozens of American activists, elected officials and public figures have ties to communists and that Cuba has infiltrated the highest levels of U.S. government. The report names individuals such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s, and claims Cuba backs left‑wing terrorism in the United States.

In a separate congressional hearing, Rep. Mark Pocan (D‑WI) challenged U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz over his lack of a visit to Cuba. Pocan, who recently traveled to the island, urged the United States to ease sanctions, while Waltz referenced Senator Marco Rubio’s Cuban heritage in the exchange. Critics say the State Department report could be used to justify harsher U.S. policy toward Havana.
