US strike on Iranian school kills 175 children

On 28 February 2026 the United States and Israel began a bombing campaign against Iran. A U.S. Tomahawk missile hit a girls’ primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, killing an estimated 175 people, most of them children and several teachers.

CNN reported that senior U.S. commanders ignored internal warnings that the targeting database contained outdated coordinates for the site. Sources said the warnings were marked as “requires verification,” but the strikes were approved under pressure from President Donald Trump’s decision to start the war. A Pentagon investigation was opened days later, yet the report has not been released. Iranian officials and media have described the incident as one of the deadliest civilian mistakes by the U.S. military in recent decades.
