US airstrikes on Iran kill at least 50, injure over 500
Iran's Ministry of Health reported at least 50 fatalities and more than 500 injuries from a series of U.S. airstrikes that began in early July. Of the wounded, 460 have been discharged, while 37 remain hospitalized.
U.S. Central Command said the attacks, now in their seventh consecutive night, targeted Iranian surveillance installations, underground weapons depots and other military infrastructure, especially in the oil‑rich Khuzestan province where 95 sites were hit in ten days. Iranian officials also noted explosions in Sirik, Bandar Abbas and the Hormuz‑Gulf region.
In retaliation, Iran struck U.S. military positions and infrastructure in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, and claimed damage to a Kuwaiti power‑generation and desalination plant. Reports also mentioned explosions in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, where U.S. bases are located. The escalation follows a July 17 memorandum intended to pause hostilities, which the United States says was violated by Iranian actions against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
