US Strikes Iran Amid Fragile Hormuz Ceasefire

The United States Air Force carried out new strikes on multiple Iranian targets on Saturday, responding to an Iranian drone attack on a Panamanian‑flagged oil tanker that was transporting more than two million barrels of crude through the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks hit Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air‑defence installations, drone storage facilities and equipment used for laying mines, according to the US Central Command.

Iran condemned the airstrikes as a “flagrant violation” of the cease‑fire protocol signed on 17 June and warned of broader retaliation. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had hit US positions in the region, while Bahrain reported several Iranian drones targeting its territory. Despite the clashes, commercial vessel traffic in the strait continued.

President Donald Trump, posting on Truth Social, warned that “Iran will not exist” if the United States escalates further. US Vice‑President JD Vance said any violence would only generate more violence, urging both sides to resolve differences by phone. Analysts noted the renewed fighting threatens the stability of a key oil transit route and could impact global energy markets.
