US Supports Record Methamphetamine Seizure in Mexico and Expands Anti‑Narcotics Coalition to Colombia

Mexican authorities seized about 24,000 liters of liquid methamphetamine in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, in a joint operation that included the United States, according to U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson. The haul, the largest of its kind in recent years and the second‑largest ever recorded in Mexico, also included roughly 60 tonnes of precursor chemicals and led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Jorge “N”. The operation involved the Mexican National Guard, the Army and the Attorney General's Office.

Separately, Colombia announced it will join the U.S.-led “Shield of the Americas” initiative, a coalition of American‑hemisphere nations aimed at coordinating actions against drug cartels. President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed participation, noting that the framework seeks to improve cross‑border law‑enforcement cooperation while respecting national legal safeguards. The coalition already counts the United States and several Latin‑American countries, with Peru also expected to join.
