US Supreme Court blocks Trump's birthright citizenship order

The United States Supreme Court ruled 6‑3 that President Donald Trump's executive order attempting to deny citizenship to children born in the United States to undocumented or temporary‑status parents was unconstitutional. The Court reaffirmed the 14th Amendment’s citizenship‑clause, stating that anyone born on U.S. soil, except for children of foreign diplomats, is a citizen from birth. Trump denounced the decision and urged Congress to legislate a change. In the wake of the ruling, some of his advisers floated a new proposal to bar pregnant foreign women from entering the United States, shifting the immigration debate to border‑entry restrictions. The same day the Court also upheld state bans on transgender athletes in school sports.
