US survey shows preference for financial innovation over cryptocurrency
A new Ipsos survey reveals that Americans show significantly higher support for broad financial technology innovation than for specific cryptocurrency policies. While 35% of respondents want political candidates to support developing the next generation of financial technology, only 13% express support when the question explicitly mentions blockchain, cryptocurrency, or decentralized finance.
The data highlights a substantial trust gap regarding decentralized platforms. Only 5% of surveyed adults express substantial trust in these platforms, and only 9% report strong familiarity with cryptocurrency. Despite this, crypto ownership or usage rose from 18% in 2025 to 22% in 2026.
Other polling suggests that consumers favor traditional institutions for security. A previous CoinDesk poll found that 65% of US voters trust banks more than crypto for financial inclusion, while an American Bankers Association survey noted that 44% of adults prefer banks for fraud protection. Research indicates that willingness to adopt crypto services increases significantly, from 36% to 56%, when bank-level protections are included.
