U.S. Trade Office Schedules Section 301 Hearing on Brazil’s Agro Exports
The U.S. Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced a public hearing on July 6 to examine Brazil’s policies and practices under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The session will cover digital trade, electronic payment services, alleged unfair tariffs, anti‑corruption measures, intellectual‑property protection, access to the U.S. ethanol market and illegal deforestation.
Around 70 Brazilian participants—including representatives from 11 agricultural sectors, the Renewable Fuels Association, and industry groups such as the Brazilian Association of Soluble Coffee Industry—will attend to argue that higher tariffs would raise U.S. consumer prices. The hearing is expected to shape future U.S. trade actions toward Brazil’s agribusiness and related industries.
