US Treasury 10-year yields hit highest level since 2000
The United States Treasury has issued 10-year debt at a 5.30% yield, the highest rate for this duration since November 2000. The auction, which placed $39 billion in debt, saw strong demand with bids reaching 2.77 times the amount offered, despite the significant jump in yields from 4.834% in September.
This rise in interest rates has pressured major stock indices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq all experienced declines as higher bond yields increase the attractiveness of fixed-income assets relative to equities.
Technology and growth stocks, such as D-Wave Quantum, have been particularly sensitive to these shifts. D-Wave Quantum saw its shares drop by 3.61% in a single session, contributing to a year-to-date decline of approximately 43%. While facing market volatility, the company continues to expand its academic partnerships, recently announcing a research fund with the University of Arkansas to study quantum applications in logistics.
