Pentagon says nearly 100 U.S. troops injured as Iran‑U.S. war escalates

The U.S. Department of Defense announced that almost 100 American service members have been wounded since July 7 in the renewed conflict with Iran. 96 % have returned to duty and most injuries were classified as minor concussions, according to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.

Three U.S. personnel have been killed – two in Jordan and one in northern Iraq – bringing the total U.S. death count to 17 since the February 28 strikes that launched the war. The fallen were identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton.

The New York Times reported that the Pentagon had delayed public reporting of many of these injuries, a claim the department denied, saying the delay protects operational security and forces in the Middle East.

U.S. forces have continued nightly airstrikes on Iranian targets, while Iran has hit U.S. sites in Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain and threatened further attacks. Houthi rebels have announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, adding pressure on global oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
