US unemployment claims dip to 206,000

Weekly unemployment claims in the United States dipped to 206,000, according to data from the Labor Department. This figure represents a slight decrease from the previous week’s revised total of 207,000. The four-week average of claims also saw a modest decline to 206,000.

Jobless claims have remained within a historically low range of 200,000 to 230,000 per week over the past year, indicating that layoffs remain relatively rare. While businesses continue to hire, the pace of job creation has been described as modest compared to previous years. So far this year, employers have added an average of 80,000 jobs per month.
