US Vice President JD Vance Leads Iran Peace Talks in Switzerland

Vice President JD Vance travelled to Switzerland to meet Iranian officials, including Gen. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators. The delegation discussed progress on the nuclear issue and a cease‑fire in Lebanon, and aimed to establish a mechanism to prevent future escalation. Vance said the talks resulted in a renewed commitment to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for international traffic, stating, “When there are the conflicts that inevitably come up, we can make sure we work through them rather than that leading to escalation.” He also noted the technical talks with the Iranians, Pakistanis and Qataris, adding, “I’m looking forward to starting the technical talks …”. The meetings come after a recent US‑Iran memorandum of understanding and ongoing Israeli‑Hezbollah clashes that threatened regional stability.
