US voter rolls contain approximately 30,000 mistaken noncitizen registrations
A review of official records indicates that approximately 30,000 self-declared noncitizens have been mistakenly added to voter rolls across a dozen US states since 2000. These instances occurred in states governed by both Democrats and Republicans.
The errors are attributed to administrative failures, such as software glitches and clerical mistakes made during the processing of driver's licenses and state ID applications, rather than organized efforts to register immigrants illegally. Experts noted that these numbers are “too small … to impact elections” when compared to the nation’s more than 170 million registered voters. While the records confirm the registrations, it remains unclear how many of these individuals actually cast ballots.
