US weekly unemployment claims fall to 194,000
Weekly unemployment claims in the United States declined to 194,000 for the week ending October 24, 2026, according to data from the Department of Labor. This figure represents a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 195,000 and marks the lowest level since mid-July.
Continuing jobless claims also saw a reduction, falling by 21,000 to 1,701,000. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate remained steady at 1.1 per cent. The four-week moving average of initial claims declined to 196,750, reflecting ongoing labor market resilience.
Economists monitor these applications as a proxy for layoffs and a signal of future job market trends. While monthly job creation has averaged 68,000 jobs so far this year, recent figures showed a slower addition of 29,000 jobs last month.
